Below the skies lay pillows of lush grass, and above that damp greenery was the outline of a human body - a girl, or rather, a woman - her fingers lifeless and her tongue dry. Her heart pumped, viciously, as if all the blood in her veins was trying to escape. A tear travelled down her wrinkled cheeks, but her body presented a comfortable numbness. Grayish-black strands of hair hung in tangles around her face and the silence in her existence created tension in the restless thunder of the night.
She laid there, absolutely motionless under the rustling of trees, with no sense of caution surrounding her. Dirt was caked under her fingernails and a messy pile of hand-picked tulips were tossed inches from her immobile body.
A crooked, empty grin pulled at her thin lips, but her eyes made no attempt at opening. Almost in tune with the booming sounds of the gloomy skies, she opened her mouth and let out a loud sigh. Her voice was defeated by the power of nature; the sigh drowned out in an aggressive wave of wind, although she did not seem to notice.
Her eyes finally opened and she stared directly into a pitch black room of nothing. Again, a smile inched across her face. A dull, weak arm reached out to touch the emptiness, but was unsuccessful. Instead, it dropped onto the ground with a thud.
Once again, her eyes closed.
Her hands that were once clenched with dirt had released. Her mouth was expressionless. A heavy heartbeat was now mute. There was no beauty in the way she laid. Days passed; the sun and the moon watched over her. The tulip petals became dry until they crumbled into the same state as the woman that picked them.
And her body became a part of the earth she once loved.
